He assumed the band and his music career were dead on arrival. Haggerty and Lavender Country quickly disappeared from the spotlight. It came out in 1973 and initially had a short shelf life. He decided to write, record and release what became the self-titled debut of his band Lavender Country, an record that was political, uncompromising and generally considered the first country album made by an openly gay artist.
